ATSC 3.0 in 2023: Why NextGen TV Still Needs Another Year
You’ve probably heard about ATSC 3.0 and its promise of NextGen TV. With superior picture quality and integrated interactive services, it sure sounds like the future of television.

So why aren’t you streaming your shows with it yet?
Why Wait Until 2023?
The short answer is that there’s still a lot of work to be done before ATSC 3.0 can be ready for the world. Here are just a few of the things that need to happen before NextGen TV can become a reality:
- Solving technology issues: Before NextGen TV can go live, broadcasters need to make sure that any existing compatibility issues are resolved.
- Implementing advanced features: ATSC 3.0 needs to be able to support the newest and most advanced features like high dynamic range and 4K resolution.
- Testing the system: The system needs to be thoroughly tested before it can go live. This includes testing the new transmission system, the devices that will be used to receive the signal, and the software that will be needed to support the features.
And that’s just the short list!
A Word of Caution About Hilarious TV Experiences
It also takes a bit of time to get ATSC 3.0 up and running. This means that we won’t be seeing it until the end of 2023, which doesn’t leave much time to get it ready for the hilarious TV experiences you’ve been dreaming of.
So while it’s exciting that NextGen TV will finally be here soon, you’ll just have to settle for your current streaming and cable services for the next year or so. Ugh.
