New CRTC chair promises revamped internet pricing model coming soon
Finally! The CRTC Has a New Chair and (Maybe) New Internet Pricing!
Jacob Glick has recently taken on the title of CRTC chair and has promised a new, fairer internet pricing model. It’s been a long time coming, but could this finally be the answer to many Canadians’ online woes? Let’s take a closer look!

An Optimistic Outlook
Glick has made some bold promises, pledging that soon the high rates for internet services will be a thing of the past. He pledges to move away from the current monopoly model and usher in a new era of competitive pricing. This would be a breath of fresh air for Canadians who have been struggling with budget-breaking internet bills for far too long!
Why Change is Necessary
The internet is an essential utility for almost everything we do in the 21st century. It’s important for work, study, and entertainment. It’s also the only way to access a variety of news and information sources.
Unfortunately, in Canada, many areas lack the infrastructure necessary to support competitive pricing in the telecom industry. This leads to only a few players in the market, which means Canadians are often forced to accept one or two chosen rates. Thankfully, it looks like this could finally be changing!
What’s Next?
We’re cautiously optimistic that Glick’s plan will be implemented and that Canadian consumers will soon benefit from lower internet costs. But there’s still a lot we don’t know. Here are some of the questions we are hoping to get more information on:
- How will pricing be regulated?
- Will the plan be mandatory for all service providers?
- What will happen to current contracts?
We’re crossing our fingers (and toes!) that the new CRTC chair will answer these questions soon and finally bring more competitive and fairer prices to the Canadian internet market. But until then, we’ll just have to sit back and wait!
